Every story begins with a journey. At Rescue Houston, our story started through the journey of walking step by step to understand and learn what specific role we were called to have in fighting the evil darkness of sex trafficking. But, for a problem so complex across the globe, the big question was: where do we begin?
Our journey started taking traction by learning about a rescue hotline in Atlanta, which at the time had rescued close to thirty victims of sex trafficking in six months. Immediately it was recognized that this was not occurring in Houston. From there the official research quickly began to understand the local Houston landscape and what was truly needed.
After seventeen months of extensive research and the development of strategic partnerships with advocacy groups, law enforcement, social service organizations, and faith-based organizations, it was confirmed that Houston was in need of an immediate local rescue helpline. While walking our journey, taking one step at a time, we became equipped with the data, people, partnerships, resources, and financial provision to establish Rescue Houston in May 2014. Every step that was taken played a critical role in creating a unique helpline specific to the needs of Houston. We had indeed lived Proverbs 16:9 “A person may plan his own journey, but the Lord directs his steps”. Now we can say without a doubt, that our specific role is to provide immediate local response and rescue to victims of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Our helpline advocates and exit teams are available 24/7, year-round. Receiving the call, deploying the exit team, and transporting the survivor to a safe home can be completed within a 30 -120 minute timeframe. We then work with each survivor, placing them in the appropriate long-term restoration program specific to their needs. Our long-term safe home partners include local presence to homes throughout the entire country.
We stand firmly in our role that we were given, but we certainly recognize it will take everyone – advocacy groups, law enforcement, social service organizations, and faith-based organizations – all working together to see victory over sex trafficking in Houston. Please Take Our Hand and join us in our mission of Hope, Freedom and New Life.
